Inishbofin offers an array of activites for tourists to enjoy. From short to long walks taking in the spectacular blowholes and sea stacks and the seal colony of the island to brid watching and discovering the unique flora and fauna of the island. There are numerous beaches for swimming as well as opportunities for diving and sea angling.
The clear clean waters, and white sandy beaches on Inishbofin provide some of the best scuba diving and snorkelling Ireland has to offer. Likewise there are many safe beaches for swimming enthusiasts.
There are so may options to appeal to all personalites, here is an introduction to some on offer:
Fishing trips in charter boats and even traditional island currachs can be arranged. Local catches in the Atlantic waters range from herring, mackerel and plaice to the occasional tuna. Packed lunches can also be provided for all excursions.
Bicycle hire can easily be arranged. There’s not much traffic on Inishbofin, only a few cars belonging to islanders, so it is an easy and safe island to navigate by bicycle. The undulating landscape of gentle hills is suitable for all abilities.
There are several interesting walks to navigate around the island, taking in different points of interest from the historical such as Cromwell’s Castle, to the natural such as protected bird and plant life and the local seal colony. Maps are provided free of charge to all guests and guided walks can be arranged upon request.
Boat trips can be arranged to neighbouring islands such as Inishshark, abandoned in the 1960’s with remains of dwelling houses still visible, great fishing and a large seal colony, or to Inishturk, the nearest inhabited island.
